Event Description:

Come and visit the restored Powder House built in 1822 on Godfrey's Hill. View the exterior and interior restoration, stroll the original cobblestone wagon path, and grounds. The Powder House is an American Association of State and Local History merit award winner. Guided tours of this unique historic landmark critical to our coastal defense will be given on both afternoons. Participants and guides of both events will be in either full military regalia or period costumes.

On Sunday September 23, 12-4:00 pm the Members of the Acton Minutemen will be there to talk about the importance of the early militias in all the towns of the Mass Bay Colony, and to demonstrate the use and firing of the flintlock musket, and various marching maneuvers from the Revolutionary War.

On Sunday September 30, 12-4:00 pm Ron Raiselis, master cooper, will demonstrate his craft and fascinate attendees with both his skills and depth of knowledge. He is especially good at engaging children with his humor and helpful learning techniques.

The event is sponsored by the Newburyport Preservation Trust, a non-profit membership organization that values and advocates for the historic heritage of Newburyport.

Admission is free and open to the public. Parking is available.
